The mission of the Alabama Ballet is to promote the development of ballet through high-quality performances, education and outreach.

The Alabama Ballet began in 1981 as an outgrowth of the Birmingham Civic Ballet, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Ballet and Ballet Alabama. Under the current direction of Artistic Director Tracey Alvey and Associate Artistic Director Roger Van Fleteren, The Alabama Ballet remains one of only 7 companies in the world granted the right to perform George Balanchine's "The Nutcracker" by the Balanchine Trust. The Alabama Ballet School is also the only accredited Royal Academy of Dance program in the state of Alabama.

Each year, thousands of Alabama’s children experience the wonder of ballet through educational performances, free in-school programs and other community outreach services of The Alabama Ballet. Your support helps keep these programs in operation, allowing The Alabama Ballet to offer educational and community services to schools and communities free of charge or below cost.
