Amigos de las Americas Inc.-San Diego is creating future world leaders through empowering youth outside of our borders. We are sending volunteers to various small, rural communities throughout Latin America to facilitate cross-cultural interaction, community based initiatives (projects), and youth workshops. These workshops promote awareness of critical health issues like sanitation, environmenttal sustainability, nutrition and exercise.

Hello, my name is Aimee Solano and I am currently a junior at Great Oak high School. About a year ago I learned of a volunteer service organization called Amigos de las Americas, and have decided to dedicate eight weeks of summer 2013 in Cajamarca, Peru with Amigos de Las Americas! I will be spending eight weeks of this coming summer speaking only Spanish, living with a host family and facilitating a project with and for my host community.

While in Peru, I will organize community led projects ranging from activities with local children in environmental preservation to health, nutrition, or recycling. AMIGOS thoroughly prepares all of their volunteers in advance- I am currently in the process of the intensive seven month decision making, leadership, and resource management training that is required prior to the trip.

My family must cover the cost of my airfare and personal expenses but on my own I must fundraise the money to purchase the materials needed for the community project. I am aking for your help in making the work we will do in Latin America this summer possible. To accomplish my fundraising goal of $3,200, I hope you will consider making a tax-deductible contribution that will help offset the cost of materials.
