We provide services enabling our members to remain independently in their own homes enjoying their community and favorite activities.

"I like to meet people and I look forward to this," member Elizabeth (real name withheld to protect privacy) told an interviewer. Elizabeth, 87 and still a practicing mental health professional, lives alone and gets a lot of exercise, "so for the moment, I can take care of myself," she said. "But AHA! gives me a sense of security. I think, 'Oh, my, these people can do much for me.' It is a feeling that when I need something, I have somebody to call on."

Conner, 85 plus," always plans ahead. "I am in love with Alexandria and I love this house," he said. 'I would hate the idea of giving up driving and giving up my house.”

Both Elizabeth and Conner have something valuable to give to the community. Both are well connected to Alexandria history and neighborhoods and have experiences and interests to share with the Alexandria community.

To ensure that you can stay in your home as long as possible, you too, should plan ahead by joining Elizabeth and Conner in the AHA! family. Join as a Member, Friend or volunteer; that way services will be available to you the moment you need them.

Congratulations on the First Anniverasary of AHA! I feel fortunate to have your organizaiton and the services you make available right here in Alexandria. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else, and I know now that I can remain independantly at home as my disabilities progress and as I age. What a luxury, no, a necessary service, you provide to this community. AHA! is a true sign that Alexandria is a mature community, in both senses of the word.
