All in a day's work

Remember summer as a child? Time to play, explore, define your identity. Help our students sail, soar, achieve in wooden boats of their own!

Believe it or not, there is a group tucked away in an old warehouse in Frankford where a few dozen high school kids from low wealth communities come so they can build a boat together and then sail in it on the Delaware River by summer.

How cool is that?

Since 1996, the Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory has started with a bunch of wood with the bark still on it, and taught students how to transform it into a boat. Using a hands-on experiential approach to learning, the program blends physical strength and endurance, with problem solving and academic enrichment, helping students develop the resiliency, team spirit, and tenacity to succeed in the 21st century.

This summer Boat Factory students will be training to sail competitively in our student restored wooden Lightning class sailboats, and using our growing fleet of newly built Whitehalls for rowing and environmental ecology based programming. Most importantly, students this summer will be having fun, while doing something really hard. When you combine these two items, powerful things happen.

The Boat Factory is rich in human capital and spirit, but runs on a shoestring budget. Over the next few months, we are seeking to raise $15,000 from people we know. As a community, your support can help PWBF bridge a gap in funding and make a summer to change a life forever.

Please, can you help our students achieve their goals by clicking below to make a generous donation? Please share this link with your friends and encourage them to learn more and donate.
