A Rotta Love Plus is Creating a Better World for Pit Bulls and Rottweilers.
Beyond rehoming Rottweilers and pit bulls, A Rotta Love Plus has several core programs that provide community assistance, outreach, and education. These include: 1) Get Your Fix! (spay/neuter assistance program), 2) PRIORITY Paws (therapy dog programming for youth in crisis), 3) Rott n' Pit Ed (basic dog training class), and 4) Dog Safety classes for classrooms.
1) Get Your Fix! Fairs (Spay/Neuter/Vaccination fairs)
Several times each year, ARLP hosts spay/neuter/vaccination/microchip fairs for pit bulls and Rottweilers in North Minneapolis and East St. Paul. We also offer year-round "Fixes without Fairs" to owners in need of assistance in accessing this service.
2) PRIORITY Paws
ARLP’s PRIORITY (Pitbull and Rottweiler Interactive OutReach, Instruction, and Therapy for Youth) Paws program takes place at two organizations that provide services for youth in crisis: The Bridge for Youth and St. Joseph’s Home for Children, both in Minneapolis. The PRIORITY Paws curriculum encourages a discussion among teens and ARLP volunteers about topics that relate jointly to animal and youth welfare, such as communication, body language, empathy, resiliency, and more.
3) Rott n' Pit Ed
Rott n’ Pit Ed is an eight-week basic obedience class that is free to ARLP alumni dogs and dogs in our foster program. Members of the general public can enroll in the class with their Rottweiler or pit bull for a fee (donation).
4) Dog Safety / Education Classes for the Public
ARLP volunteers and their therapy dogs present a one-hour, basic dog safety class to children ages 5 and up. Kids learn how to approach, ask for permission, introduce themselves, and pet a dog. They also learn what to do when they meet a stray dog.
