I am running the Disney Princess Half Marathon so Colleen can triumph against Rett Syndrome. I will run so that someday she can too.
On the inside, Colleen is a regular 8 year old girl. She is smart, funny, and kind. Colleen loves school and her friends and has an affinity for shopping, especially for new clothes and purses! She likes to be with her sister and finds her little brother loud and annoying.
The "normal" ends there. She cannot talk or walk on her own. She needs help to eat, do school work, go to the bathroom, and communicate with others. Everything takes a long time, and she works hard to do it all. She is exhausted and Rett Syndrome is still beating her down with seizures and scoliosis.
I almost did not sign up for this race. I whined about it being too cold to train and all of the miles I need to run. Then I remembered how hard everything is for Colleen and decided I was just being lazy!
Medical science tells us there is a cure on the horizon. Join our team and help us get there faster. Colleen is ready for that cure and deserves the opportunity to be herself inside and out.
