Helping injured soldiers transition back into their lives with love, support and community.
On January 26, 2013 I will be participating in an awareness and FUN-draising event called "4 For The Heroes" benefitting Transition Possible, a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to positively impact the lives of wounded service members and adaptive athletes. I am asking for your support in raising funds for this important cause! Please consider making a donation of $10, $25, $50 or more to help me reach my FUN-draising goal of $3000.
WHY TRANSITION POSSIBLE:
This cause is near and dear to me because as a member of Constitution CrossFit, I have been motivated and inspired to do more than I thought possible. I have had the opportunity to witness first-hand how participation in CrossFit and sport allows both adaptive athletes and able-bodied individuals to push through adversity and realize their potential, especially when supported and encouraged by their peers and community.
Transition Possible is passionate about the health and wellness of our wounded heroes and adaptive athletes. They are committed to supporting this unique population to continue to live and achieve post injury through a mission of Awareness, Inclusion, Resources, and Opportunity.
Awareness: There is a gap that exists between the everyday citizen and these individuals who are striving to find their "new normal." Transition possible exists to bridge this gap by raising awareness about the fact that many wounded and adaptive service members are now a part of our communities. They are here and struggling to find a way to transition back into their lives.
Inclusion: It is our duty as citizens, as communities, as businesses and institutions to make every effort to include individuals with adaptive needs and allow them the same opportunities and access to their world as those who are able-bodied. It is our moral obligation to do our best for them because they have done their best for us.
Resources: Through development of an open-source website for health and fitness facilities and their owners, trainers and coaches with easily accessible, free videos, pictures and articles on exercise and movement adaptations for individuals with prosthetics and other injuries. This resource would also serve as a source of inspiration for the everyday citizen.
Opportunities: Through the development of a business acceleration and mentorship program whose long-term goal is to prepare them to enter into a new career or embark on an entrepreneurial adventure.
