Hollywood Studio of Dance is to provide professional dance instruction in a positive, creative and supportive environment
Hollywood Studio of Dance (HSD) has been established and involved in the community since 1991 and has the support of parent involvement through fundraising activities, recital preparation, assistance with enrollment for new students and parents. Parent managed publication that is used as a form of communication to inform the parents and staff of new and upcoming events. Our parent Board of Directors oversees the day-to-day operations of the studio as well as continues to increase their knowledge of operational and grant budgeting and the overall management skills needed to support the infrastructure of the program.
Hollywood Studio of Dance recognizes the need for more focused education and partnership in assisting children to face obesity issues. A program uses nutrition education and mentoring will set the foundation for sound eating habits. The camaraderie of fellow dance students as well as parent participation will aid in reaching our intended goal.
The idea behind 30 in 30 is to engage children of all ages to be active and get involved within activities that can support their learning in the performing arts and also assist with a lifestyle change. By raising this money it will allow us to increase out scholarships for our student body along with increasing enrollment numbers up to 40 students. $30,000 will pay for approximately 40 at-risk students to enroll in our nine-month program for little- no cost.
With the current direction and acknowledgement of childhood obesity added to our program there will be an increase in our children’s academic achievement because of the self-esteem and awareness of how health affects our studies and day-to-day lifestyle. In the past, HSD has been the pillar in our community for families wanting their children to learn the art of dance through formal instruction. Our culture strongly believes in an old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child”, with that in mind. Our organization seeks to keep our dance classes affordable for our community because we are located in the heart of North Minneapolis which is predominantly resided by single family households. We provide an outreach program to three early childhood development centers within our community. By providing our services to these schools, it has given us an opportunity to increase our enrollment and close the gap by building relationships and not increasing the competition within each other.
