ABOUT CHICAGO RUN
Chicago Run kicks a**. I wanted to come up with a way to raise money for this charity that is worthy of its mission.
So I've decided to test my limits in four endurance events that will cover a total of 220 miles.
Chicago Run's mission brings running programs to Chicago Public schools. It brings huge benefits to the kids it serves. Kids who paricipate in their running programs do better in school, report higher self esteem, and seem to be just plain happier.
Last year I raised money for Chicago Run in running the Chicago Marathon. This year I am upping the ante: I am devoting 4 events to raising money for Chicago Run. These races will add up to a total of 220 swimming, biking and running miles.
ABOUT THE RACES
Big Shoulders 5k Lake Michigan swim - 3.1 mile swim. September 8, 2012
The Chicago Marathon - 26.2 miles. October 7, 2012
Ironman Cozumel - 140.6 mile triathlon. November 25, 2012
Lookout Mountain Trail Race - 50-mile trail ultramarathon. December 15, 2012
(Okay, if you're a math wiz you may have noticed the true total is 219.9 miles. Can I get a .1 mile break here? Anyone who's worn a GPS watch running the Chicago Marathon will tell you that once they've finished, the distance is a bit over 26.2 miles due to detours to the port-a-potties during the race. I hereby guarantee I will make such trips. So 220 it is?)
By no stretch of the imagination will any of these be easy feats. There is a good possibility I'll reach my limits before the finish line. But knowing I'm racing for a good cause will help me along. Your warm wishes and supprt to Chicago Run and OUR Chicago kids will be greatly appreciated.
