Annual event to help the Pa. Breast Cancer Coalition raise money and awareness to support breast cancer survivors and their families.

Team Griswold is BACK for another go 'round!

It's time again for the four-horsemen to dust off their aluminum bats and take another crack at hitting a few dingers over the wall at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg for the 2011 Pa. Breast Cancer Coalition's "Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer" Homerun Derby!

In 2009, Team Griswold participated in it's first "Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer" Homerun Derby -- which is truly a great fundraising event. And for a bunch of Monday-morning, fantasy, recreational league, wanna-be baseball players -- we did pretty darn well! We placed 7th out of 19 teams in Harrisburg -- posting a total score of 1,245 points.

Last year, Team Griswold was left without it's anchor -- Mike Yantis, Sr. -- but in his place stood the rookie of the crew -- the left-hand swinging Thomas Yantis. Although Team Griswold didn't perform as well as in 2009, we stood proud and knew that we would be back in 2011 with avengance!

Please show your support for Team Griswald -- and for the PBCC's "Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer" Homerun Derby. It is a great event for a great cause.

Those out there who wish to donate to the efforts of Team Griswold, please do so on this website, or contact me via email at teamgriswold@blueridgemedia.net.

Any dontation is appreciated...we thank you in advance for your support!

Here is what Bill wrote last year about the importance of raising money and awareness to help fight breast cancer:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was 19 when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I remember the sinking feeling when she told me -- I was 12 hours away attending college in Charleston, West Virginia -- about four weeks until the end of my sophmore year. I felt helpless for not being able to get home, guilty for being away, and scared that someone so close to me had the "Big C."

But I also remember my mom being oddly calm about the whole thing. I grew up on Long Island, and most Long Island mothers can be frantic about these sort of things. But her calming tone was reassuring.

When I got home after the semester was over -- I was simply amazed by my mom's strength. I have never seen her fight so hard to overcome the obstacles -- the mastectomy, the chemo, the fatigue and pain. It was inspiring. Unbelievably inspiring.

And it was a moment in my life I will always remember.

My mom had a great support system of fellow breast cancer survivors and health experts to help her through her journey. And she was provided with unyeilding support from advocacy groups and organizations. Much of her strength came from those who volunteered and worked within these support groups. The impact of those people and organizations were immeasurable for my family.

And my mom isn't the only family member to be impacted by breast cancer. My aunt recently was diagnosed and treated for the disease. She, too, has displayed immense courage and strength during her ordeal -- but it truly hit home for me once again. I am sure that everyone who reads this knows at least one person who has been diagnosed with breast cancer -- but now there were two women in my family who have been through it.

Again, those out there who wish to donate to the efforts of Team Griswold, please do so on this website, or contact me via email at teamgriswold@blueridgemedia.net.

Those who wish to become an active participant and donate directly to the PBCC's Homerun Derby event, visit http://www.pahomerunderby.org/ for more information. And for those who wish to become an active supporter of the PBCC, visit http://www.pabreastcancer.org/.

Team Griswold will take to the field Wednesday, July 13 – time yet to be determined -- at the home of the Harrisburg Senators.

We are hopeful that those of you who are able to donate will support this event – and even if you are unable to donate – it would be great to see you in the stands rooting for the Griswolds to either crush a few homers or make complete asses of ourselves by not even hitting a baseball past the pitcher’s mound.

And if you want to become an even greater participant, be sure to visit the PBCC's Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer webpage.

Thanks!

Team Griswold!
