Contributions to the Exhibition Program allow us to connect artists with the public and help them present their work in the best light.
The Exhibition Program at Banfill-Locke provides encounters with rich, excellent and diverse artwork by emerging and established area artists. We want to support artists by providing professional opportunities including compelling, quality presentations of their creative output. We want to ensure that visitors to our galleries experience the art as fully as possible helping to increase awareness and understanding of the creative process allowing for better appreciation of and stronger connection to the work. In practical terms it means: keeping gallery walls and spaces primed and ready to receive art; paint and related tools; lighting (as energy conscious as possible!); hanging/installation systems and more recently, projectors, cables and other technical equipment. Additionally, we are mindful that artists--especially those just starting out--may not have the resources to prepare their work for display. We would like to establish a fund to help exhibiting artists with limited means to frame their work and/or rent equipment needed for installation. Finally, marketing and promoting the exhibitions can be costly. We are committed to electronic methods--email, social networking, website etc., however, printing and postage cannot be avoided altogether and some of us still enjoy looking at a postcard and reading hardcopy. Contributions to the Exhibition Program will help Banfill-Locke fulfill an important role: helping artists to develop and grow their work; providing opportunities for our community to participate and engage in the arts.
