Our goal is to reach 1000 people to commit to a monthly donation of at least $10
Where did that $10 go? Ten dollars seem to disappear quickly from our wallets. Frequently, it is hard to remember where the money went. However, if one thousand people put $10 together, it would be unforgettable. We are asking for you to consider giving a recurring, monthly contribution of at least $10 to the ICWA Law Center. Our goal is to get 1000 people to commit to the monthly donation, resulting in $10,000 a month for our agency.
Since 1993, the Law Center has provided legal representation in over 3,700 cases involving more than 6,500 Indian children. In 2009 alone, the four staff attorneys appeared in over 700 hearings where they zealously advocated for clients and the preservation of Indian families through placement of children with family or kin if reunification was not possible. Regrettably, change is occurring with funding sources for legal aid organizations such as the Law Center, and sources that were previously relied upon, are now unstable and uncertain, and as a result, the future of the Law Center is no longer secure.
What does $10 mean for our agency? It will cover parking costs for our attorneys to attend 5 hearings in Hennepin County Juvenile Court, and help pay gas and travel expenses for hearings in counties outside the Twin Cities metro. It will assist with training materials for trainings with Tribes and county agencies. And most importantly, if enough people commit to a monthly donation, it will stabilize our future existence.
We understand that you receive numerous requests for financial support. We appreciate that there are many agencies struggling to remain stable. However, we are asking for you to consider giving a recurring, monthly contribution of at least $10.
With your help, we will meet our goal and, most importantly, our clients will continue to receive our legal representation so that they can be assured to have a voice in the future of their children .
