Proudly Presents
The 3rd Annual "Feed a Teen" Thanksgiving Day Dinner
KOB is hosting its 3rd Annual "Feed A Teen Thanksgiving Day Dinner", Thursday, November 26, 2008 to promote higher education and non-violence among our youth... During this historical event the attending youth will join the KOB Peacekeepers Program. Each child will take a pledge to refrain from violence and activities that lead to violence. Upon taking the pledge youth will be given a KOB t-shirt and goodie Bag. We want to feed 500 to 1,000 teens on Thanksgiving Day. We are asking for your support with this endeavor. We understand that giving all across the country is down due to the economic recession, but even in the worst economic downturn in decades we still have to be concerned about the current state of our young people. Though this event will not tackle all of the issues our young people face, it will encourage them and uplift them during the holiday season.
This is an opportunity for you to show your support, below you will find a list activities we would like to plan during the feed-a-teen event. Each year we have an over whelming response from the community, and last year we were able to feed over 600 teens from the Roseland area and the surrounding communities.
• Annual event held on Thanksgiving Day in Roseland at Kids Off the Block "center"
• 500 - 1,000 teens are invited and bused in from various low-income and/or high-crime neighborhoods in the city
• 4 - 5 buses are donated to transport the kids
• Teens take a pledge to refrain from acts of violence and receive a t-shirt that says "I took the pledge..."
• Entertainment by popular artists
• Entertainment by local artists with positive music
• Food is provided
• Last year's program had 5 - 6 different gangs in one room and went off without a hitch
• Chicago Police officers donate time to not only provide security, but to also talk with the kids about their concerns
• Community leaders also attend and the kids and leaders exchange ideas on how to decrease the violence in Chicago
