Why is the U.S. Bicycle Route System an important project for you and all cyclists?

U.S. Bike Routes will help bring the transformative power of cycling to more Americans, connecting cyclists across the U.S. with cities, transportation hubs, scenic and historic destinations through existing (and new) infrastructure; these routes will be numbered, mapped, and officially recognized by state and federal government agencies.

Adventure Cycling is working in partnership with dozens of federal, state, and local agencies, other nonprofits, volunteers, and the U.S. Congress to build this visionary network. The momentum behind it is simply phenomenal — over 40 states are already working on U.S. Bicycle Routes!

What do donations support?

Donations to the U.S. Bicycle Route System support a full-time staff member, our talented and effective Special Projects Director Ginny Sullivan, who works tirelessly to coordinate the route planning and AASHTO application process of 41 states, as many as 100 corridor plans, dozens of volunteers, and providing all the training, education, outreach, and other support to implement the project. Through this campaign, we hope to raise funds to create a Best Practices Guide, which will outline various models for states to create U.S. Bike Routes, so we can be more effective and productive with implementing the project.
