History Theatre creates and produces new works that explore Minnesota’s past and the diverse American experience.

History Theatre is a nationally-recognized leader for creating work based on the American experience. Founded in 1978, this Emmy Award and three-time Ivey Award winning theater has a reputation for creating brave new work that touches people’s lives and engages audiences. It does this through: - An annual mainstage season; - Raw Stages, a public presentation series to develop new work; and - A vital arts and humanities education program. Since its inception, History Theatre has commissioned and produced over 100 world premiere plays and musicals. History Theatre is a vital keeper of America’s stories, and the preservation of Minnesota’s historical legacy. History Theatre’s mandate – bringing history to life – guides all its work with youth and with adults. Each year, History Theatre serves 25,000 – 35,000 young people, families, and adults.
