YIPA represents over 100 youth intervention programs across the state of Minnesota serving over 50,000 at-risk kids age 6-18.

Emilio Vargas came to a youth intervention program as a troubled kid skipping school and caught in a dangerous web of gang activity. He was on a path to nowhere. "Since joining the program, he has a newfound optimistic approach to life. He is performing wonderfully in school, has loads of friends, and is adored by all at the YMCA. He participates in extracurricular activities after school, and is truly enjoying himself in all he does." Today, Emilio is a staff member of the YMCA and on his way to finishing college. 85% of youth who participant in a quality youth intervention program never re-offend, build stronger relationships with adults, and increase their school attendance. Kids who participate in youth intervention programs become kids who graduate from high school and on their way to college instead of a lifetime in jail. Kids who participate in youth intervention programs living a healthier lifestyle and become leaders among their peers instead of damaged by drugs and alcohol. Kids who participate in youth intervention programs become leaders in their communities instead of trapped by gangs. Kids change sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Who will be there to support them in that change? Minnesota Youth Intervention Programs Association (YIPA). YIPA is about helping kids who are on the verge of choosing the wrong path toward the juvenile justice system and redirecting them through quality early intervention programs such as mentoring, counseling, conflict management, or supportive out-of-school programs.
