THE MINNESOTA STATE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Since 1866, the Minnesota State Horticultural Society has inspired and educated gardening enthusiasts throughout Minnesota and the upper Midwest. We help gardeners—and gardens—grow!

Readers rely upon Northern Gardener magazine—the longest running magazine published in Minnesota—for resources and expert information on cold climate gardening.

·Each year, our acclaimed Minnesota Green program distributes over $100,000 in seeds and plants to 280 community gardens, encouraging people to gather and garden in cities, suburbs and small towns throughout Minnesota.

·New and experienced gardeners find advice and encouragement through a wide array of specialized MSHS classes--programs like our series on the emerald ash borer, preserving the garden harvest, winter seed starting, and many more!

·Garden-in-a-Box provides garden boxes, soil, plants and instructions, helping people create beauty and grow healthy food in small spaces even without access to an in-ground garden.

·Dedicated MSHS members volunteer thousands of hours of their time to encourage new gardeners, share their expertise, and strengthen their communities.

·The MSHS library—the largest circulating horticulture library in Minnesota—serves members and the public, with a particular emphasis on resources for cold climate gardening.

·Our website, www.northerngardener.org, is a quick link to garden clubs, plant societies, garden centers, and a wide range of gardening resources.

·MSHS educates and reaches out to thousands of gardeners through programs and displays at the state fair, garden shows and other events throughout the year.

Gardening provides nutritious, locally grown food and healthful activity. Gardeners create places of beauty, deepen our commitment to environmental sustainability and build more vibrant communities. With your support, MSHS will continue helping individuals, families and communities share in these benefits.

Your donation helps MSHS serve today’s gardeners and continue to be the trusted tool for gardening knowledge and inspiration for future generations.

Sue Schiess Gardening in Minnesota would be a lonely pursuit without MSHS! As a Zone 4 gardener, MSHS's NORTHERN GARDENER magazine is the only gardening magazine that is 100% appropriate to local conditions. As a master gardener committed to disseminating information about best gardening practices, I find MSHS to be an invaluable resource!
