Grand Canyon Trust
A US registered nonprofit
Mission
We work towards a region where generations of people and all of nature can thrive in harmony. Our vision for the Colorado Plateau 100 years from now is: 1) a region still characterized by vast open spaces with restored, healthy ecosystems and habitat for all native plants and animals, 2) a sustaining relationship between human communities and the natural environment, 3) people living and visiting the Colorado Plateau who are willing and enthusiastic stewards of the region's natural resources and beauty.
Programs
Grand Canyon Trust has seven major program areas: air quality and energy; forests; landscape protection; Native America, rangelands; species conservation; and water. As a result of our 2004 strategic plan, we made important changes and additions to our Native America program and are also undertaking a large scale, on-the-ground restoration program for two ranches on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. We have also decided to make a substantial investment in improving all aspects of our communications with the media, Trust members and the public. In the future, any new potential programs will be measured against detailed selection criteria before any decision is made to take them on.
Throughout all our programs, the Trust is intentionally collaborating with conservation colleagues far more actively than in recent years. Our Colorado Plateau geographic focus is unique and the breadth of approaches we employ is extremely unusual, but there are a great many groups with whom we share goals, information, funding, and emotional support. As needed, we actively partner at all levels with other group or agencies working on the Plateau, providing, for example, our GIS capability or borrowing another group?s legal expertise. In particular, our long-running collaborative work occasionally gives us important standing on national issues. We can leverage this most effectively in partnership with national groups that help us bring our message to Washington.
