After School @ Central provides academic support and caring mentors for at-risk youth in the Midway community of St. Paul

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Because of your generosity, we received $5,155 through Give to the Max Day! God is good!

Because of the generous support from the Central Community and beyond, we are addressing critical needs for children and youth!

About our program: Behavior problems and poor academic performance in urban youth can be directly linked to the absence of caring, supportive adults in their lives. By providing one-on-one consistant mentoring to each child in our after-school tutoring program, we fill a gap for these at-risk kids that is beyond what a public school teacher in an over-crowded classroom can provide.

Beyond basic homework help and measured academic improvement, we see marked progress in behavioral and social issues. As self-esteem and self-confidence rise, positive peer pressure and adult/child interactions also rise and negative behaviors decrease.

As we build bridges into the lives of the children we serve, we are also seeking to extend that reach to their families. Parenting groups, English language groups, and family activities are also becoming a regular part of our programming. By bringing entire families into contact with resources, supportive relationships, and educational enrichment, we are able to significantly improve their lives socially, academically, and economically.

Your donation to CCSI today will go directly towards providing after-school tutoring and expanding our reach to entire families here in the Midway community of St. Paul. Thank you!
