Bridging is the nation’s largest furniture bank; distributing more than 100,000 items each year

Bridging fills the gap for those who find themselves with shelter but no financial ability to purchase furnishings to make it livable. In 2011 Bridging will provide about 4,500 families in crisis the opportunity to furnish their home with the basic items… a bed to sleep in, a table and chairs to eat at, a dresser to store clothing in, a towel to bathe with, and dishes, silverware, pots and pans to make a meal. Features of Bridging include: • Families come to us by referral for more than 125 social service agencies • There is no charge to the family • Clients choose the items they want; receiving 20 to 25 items • A client can only use the services of Bridging once • Product is donated by over 16,000 area businesses and residents By year end, 4,500 different family stories will pass through our doors. One such story is of Joseph a single working father who after paying for rent, food and daily living expenses did not have enough money for furniture. After coming to Bridging he wrote.... I remember my kids coming home, the look on their faces to see that we had furniture made me cry. They were so happy! My kids kept saying dad we have a couch now, they were so grateful and so was I! I will never forget the first night that we were all able to sleep in a bed instead of the floor. Getting up in the morning to go to work is a much different experience now that I have a bed to sleep in and for me and my kids to sit in the couch together, and eat at the dining room table together is priceless!

I give to Bridging, because it is a hands-on organization, that provides sofas, chairs, end tables, dining tables and chairs, dressers, bedding, lamps, rugs, and even pictures for the walls! Also pots and pans, plates and cups, silverware and glasses, towels, and even toys for the kids! All of this for free to individuals and families that have no where else to turn to, for these basic necessities. It's a miracle really, and it shows on the faces of those who are taken on their shopping trip through the warehouse, and get to pick out furnishings for their home. That's why I give to Bridging.
