"Delivering Essentials, Developing Opportunities" The American Relief Agency for the Horn of Africa (ARAHA) is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded in Minnesota in the year 2000 by a group of concerned advocates and service providers. ARAHA has become a powerful tool to help the poorest people in the world. Why the Horn of Africa? The Horn of Africa became a region of extreme poverty in this century. Up to the present day disease and poverty are on rise. The Horn of Africa is considered one of the poorest regions in the world because of ongoing wars, famine, disease, and natural disasters such as drought. These conditions are even more complicated with the rise of unstable governments and the lack of basic infrastructure such as roads, water systems, and electricity.
The Horn of Africa is geographical term used to identify a portion of East Africa. This region includes Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
ARAHA provides Humanitarian Aid to the needy in the Horn of Africa through the following programs: Constructing long-term community water wells;Food distribution and other emergency aid to areas facing a humanitarian crisis; Empowering poor families with tools that generate income for their families such as water tanker, dairy cows, dairy goats …etc. Educational projects such as building schools, distribution of school supplies, books, computers labs for schools, and sponsoring students; Building shelters for displaced families; and Orphan sponsorship.
