ADVOCACY PROJECT
A US registered nonprofit

Washington, DC

Mission

The Advocacy Project supports advocates who work for social justice and human rights at the community level. AP does this by helping them in the way they use information.

Programs

AP works to strengthen the capacity of human rights advocates to produce, disseminate and use information effectively. AP does this by providing the following services: Dissemination: AP sends out news and information about community-based advocates through our online newsletter (AdvocacyNet) and our website (www.advocacynet.org). AP?s news is one of the best resources on the Internet today for community-based organizations and the issues that affect them. Fellowship: AP?s ?Fellows for Peace? program is designed to support partners by sending them graduate students to support their advocacy and work. In the past four years, AP has successfully sent out 55 interns to 18 countries and territories. The program carefully matches students with grassroots organizations so as to ensure that the grassroots organization gets skilled and appropriate support and that fellows get to work with host organizations on important and critical issues in the human rights/international development field. With its five university partners and AP training program specifically designed to help fellows work with community-based organizations, AP?s fellowship program is rapidly becoming known as an excellent leadership development program.ICT training: AP helps partners? advocacy in reaching a wider audience by helping partners build and maintain websites, and use internet-based technologies in their advocacy. Training: AP is developing a training program to help community-based organizations produce information, use ICT and build their skills as advocates. This is based on the experience and lessons learnt in the eight years that AP has been working with community-based advocates. Research: AP carries out research with the aim of shedding light on the issues that affect community-based advocates. AP is hoping by this service to better define the strengths, weaknesses and needs of community-based advocates.
