Cats are known for being some of nature’s most beautiful creatures. But if you happen to visit the Exeter Veterinary Hospital in New Hampshire, you’ll probably do a double take at the sight of one particular animal that looks a bit more like the demonic infant from Rosemary’s Baby than a cute and cuddly cat. Bald-headed and wrinkled, with tangled fur that covers his chest, this unfortunate-looking creature is known as Ugly Bat Boy—or Ugly, for short.
Ugly is owned by one of the veterinarians, Dr. Stephen Bassett—and he’s picked up quite a following among the clinics’ patients, too.
“People come in and take pictures of him on their cell phones," veterinary employee Christie Hartnett told WMUR News. "He's just great. He's Dr. Bassett's little wonder cat."
Despite his frightening appearance, there is nothing wrong with Ugly. He was born looking this way, and even had a nearly identical sister who died shortly after birth. Now, his surprising looks make him a one-of-a-kind feline, who’s quickly becoming the talk of Exeter and far beyond, even making headlines in England. Though he may not be the handsomest kitty around, it’s a safe bet that Ugly Bat Boy is a face you’ll never forget.
How you can help: Lucky for him, Ugly the cat has a wonderful home—but many other cats don’t. Because so many cats are not spayed or neutered, they become overpopulated and uncontrollable. Many become feral or end up in animal shelters, and are frequently euthanized. To help support inexpensive spay/neuter and feline adoption programs and help ensure that other cats are able to find homes, consider making a donation to a nonprofit group like Best Friends Animal Society, Alley Cat Allies, or the PETCO Foundation. Just click on the Give-a-Buck banner on your right, and Razoo will make a free $1 donation in your name to one of those organizations!
