How Much Does the Average American Give to Charity?
The truth is, there is no “average American.” Some people don’t donate a single cent to charity, while others donate millions every year. However, the annual report issued by Giving USA provides some interesting statistics on giving in America. Among their findings:
The average American gives 2.3 percent of his disposable income to a nonprofit group.
Two-thirds of households with income below $100,000 donate to charity each year.
Half of individual giving is directed towards religious groups. Raise money for these groups and other groups.
In 2007, a total of $306.39 billion was donated to charitable organizations by individuals, corporations, and foundations—per capita, the largest charitable contribution of any country in the world.
